Bluebrain Creative is a boutique design studio located in beautiful Victoria BC Canada. We work with a diverse range of clients on an even more diverse array of projects. The office is comfy, the culture is professional and relaxed, the work is creative and varied.
Our goal is to engage worthwhile projects we can really get behind - whether it's supporting non-profits tackling climate collapse or launching fun kickstarters that bring people joy. If you have the talent and passion, and your skills are a match for one of our open positions, we can provide you with work you will find fun and professionally gratifying.
We will be building a team of four to five artists for a production pipeline of concept artist > modeller > texture artist > integrator. These roles may be dedicated, or tasks might span multiple of those steps depending on skillsets.
Ultimately, in whatever capacity, you will be part of a team designing and building hundreds of fun game-optimized sci-fi assets, and getting them set up for a super fun app via Unity or Unreal.
If you love creating spaceships, vehicles, props, weapons, everything and anything sci-fi for games, and you are exceptionally good at it ... this may be your dream job!
For the next four months, we will be doing some trial projects with select applicants on a contract basis, and by late spring will be offering full-time positions.
Pay will be commensurate with experience and capabilities, we'll be offering competitive benefits and unlimited paid time off. We'd love to hire locally here in Victoria, BC., but capability is more important than proximity, so we'll be consider applicants from abroad. If you are in Ukraine, or are a member of a vulnerable minority group in the United States, we will be happy to attempt to sponsor you for immigration if possible.
Continue below for individual job descriptions.
We are seeking an exceptionally talented sci-fi concept artist - an industry veteran with a portfolio that speaks for itself.
This is not an entry or mid-level opportunity. We won't be hiring for this position unless we can find someone with a highly compelling, well-populated portfolio.
You'll be designing a variety of styles of spaceships, interiors, vehicles and props. We're looking for bold, distinct styles, each with unique character - styles that will be identifiable and not blend in with generic sci-fi or established IPs. For each "style" we'll be looking to you to design a visual language that the 3D artists on the team can carry over to hundreds of additional models.
Longer term, you may also have the opportunity to design from existing licensed IPs.
Since you are an industry veteran, you may have specific salary expectations. You are very welcome to expedite negotiations by communicating your requirements up-front. We won't be finalizing our offers for the full-time opportunities until spring.
Also as an industry veteran, you may prefer short or medium-term contracts vs long-term employment seeking to contribute to a project before moving on to other game or film work. While our ideal is a full-time / long-term team member, we are open to different arrangements, so please indicate your availability, preferences & goals in your application.
Your portfolio will mostly speak for itself, so to apply, please use the contact form below to direct us to your work and let us know about your career highlights, your availability and goals, your salary expectations or hourly rate for contract work.
We look forward to hearing from you and seeing your work!
If building spaceships, cryo-chambers, ammo crates and airlocks is how you do, this is the job for you!
We are seeking two to four 3D artists. These roles may be generalists, or specialists in exclusively modeling or texturing / material creation.
While the concept artist may define the initial style for a set of assets, your work producing the models will still be creative, interpreting and carrying the defined style through the creation of dozens or hundreds of individual assets and accessories.
Creating these assets is going to be fun and rewarding, but some will be technical and precise, requiring consistently following naming conventions and precise asset setup requirements.
These assets will all need to be well-optimized for real-time. There will be enough time to do good work, but not enough for extensive texture painting or sculpting to produce normal maps, etc. If your portfolio is exclusively or largely sculpting work, more organic or character focused - this project is not for you. This work really requires skillful hard-surface modeling skills.
If your portfolio contains one vehicle, a couple characters, one weapon or prop ... however good they might be, we will not be taking a chance on you. We need team members with the proven ability to efficiently produce a large volume of models.
To apply, please use the contact form to send a short message indicating what version of this job you are applying for (3D generalist, exclusively modeler, exclusively texture artist) with a link to a PDF or google doc containing a brief summary of your professional history and the following:
Please start with samples of your work, and a short description for each clarifying what your contribution was / was not, what you're proud of, what you feel could have been improved.
For modeling, unwrapping, texture / material work, and light-baking: please summarize your software proficiencies. Tell us a bit about your optimized pipeline, your solution to speedy unwrapping, light-baking, etc.
We don't always have the professional opportunities to explore all the styles of quality of work that we would like. Please share some examples of sci-fi work by other artists that you think is particularly excellent or represents what you feel the peak of your abilities will be given the opportunity. Describe specifically what you think is excellent about each example.
Though we are seeking contractors initially who may become full-time team-members later this spring, we do have things we need to get done imminently and will consider applicants who are only available short-term. Please indicate whether you are interested only in the short-term contracts, the contracts and the full-time work, or only the full-time work.
If you are an industry veteran with specific salary expectations, an amount that you would need to be offered to be sufficient for you to leave a current position you're not satisfied with, you are very welcome to expedite negotiations by communicating your requirements up-front. We won't be finalizing our offers for the full-time opportunities until spring.
Once again, though we can't share details about the project yet; if you're into sci-fi, you're going to love this one. We look forward to hearing from you.
We look forward to hearing from you and seeing your work!
